my reading of the OSI is that it's "deploliticized" in the sense that of an appeal to commercial interests
As for ESR and the modern right-wing factions of FOSS, what I mean to say is that I don't think that ESR was (or even is) a leader in this domain, that the contemporary ring-wing factions emerged more from global right-wing sentiment moreso than a natural evolution from ESR et al's faction(s), and today ESR has joined the modern right factions rather than forming them
