As software freedom activists (myself included) predicted at the time, the companies that wanted to use components now licensed under SSPL, just forked the last version released under a real Free Code license. Just as they were designed to do, those license prevented MongoDB et al using copyright to hold people hostage to their commercial Terms of Service.
