But otherwise, I agree that coups often go nowhere - indeed, a family's relative of one my friend worked in a secret service all his life, and years later was of the opinion that most so-called coups are actually usually a pre-arranged transfer of power from the hands of the old party to the hands of the new party, and the transfer is just legitimized by the cheering crowd so that the crowd thinks it has some more substantial credit for the change than just a role as a backdrop.
