The privacy commissioner's office is currently working on 19 active access-to-information appeals related to these concerns. The Greenbelt controversy began in late 2022 when the Ford government removed land from the protected Greenbelt to build 50,000 homes. After public outcry and reports from the auditor general and integrity commissioner, Ford reversed course. The RCMP is now investigating the Greenbelt removal process.
