And as much as US propaganda tries to make us forget, the only ‘default Americans’ are the Indigenous tribes of the Americas, the ones white folks almost wiped out to steal their land.
A key part of US identity is forgetting history and buying into the mythos of the superiority of whiteness.
And as we are seeing in this election, there is always a hateful reaction when that sore spot is exposed.
