I never understood why DIDs attach identity to the key-delivery method. On DIDs, the identifier is fundamentally connected to the key-finding method, which makes no sense. You want your identifier to be fully disconnected from anything so that any place that has a copy of your keys can be used to download them. The same is true for data and services around them. I think that is what Nostr brings to the table. Your identifier needs a relay set to bootstrap, but you are not tied to any of them.
