I'm not completely unsympathetic to the idea that #HS2 is so expensive that the money would be better spent on alternative transport improvements instead.
However:
1. Deciding to build it, spending lots of money on it, and then changing your mind is a really crappy way to run a country.
2. You absolutely know that they won't spend the money they save from scrapping it on other transport improvements. They'll just find a way to give it to their mates.
