He by far is not a mary sue, he makes quite a few friend-nimes and gets roped into a poltitcal marriage. Yes, this tend to turn out in his favor but the show is far more grounded than many other isekai with his magic being something that could be used in a OP way but is often done in a more subtle or lesser manner that feels generally more natural via isekai standards.
I'd reccomend avoiding almost every isekai if this one was to much honestly.
