I have to admit, whatever hw I use, I pretty fast find myself using fvwm2 or WM on any machine, evilwm on one old Pentium2 (yes, I still run a P2 with 233MHz occasionaly).
KDE, XFCE, GNOME - they are nice, but they just don't let me do things as effectly as fvwm does.
They are like fiat-windowmanagers, whereas fvwm2(crystal) is still from the gold-standard area.
One notable exception is Window Maker, which is verry adaptable and an inbetween of KDE and fvwm.
