I think that’s spot-on.
There’s a reason so many societies in the past encoded guest rights and hosting as literally sacred obligations—think Odin in the guise of the wandering old man or Zeus as Xenios, patron of foreigners. The freedom to leave a place is foundational to any liberty, and many societies have ensured this freedom by creating the expectation that you will host strangers, and be hosted in turn if you arrive somewhere new.
