This is because 5 factors (as an ordinary integer) as 5 . 13 . 17, and because all those prime factors are 1 mod 4 each of those factors further as a Gaussian integer: (2+i)(2-i).(2+3i)(2-3i).(4+i)(4-i), and now you can take any of the 8 ways of picking one factor from each of those pairs -- e.g., (2+i)(2-3i)(4+i) -- and multiply that out (in this case getting 32-9i, so 32^2+9^2=1105). That gives you 4 rather than 8 genuinely different cases because if you take all the conjugates, (2-i)(2+3i)(4-i), you just get the conjugate of the original answer, 32+9i.
