For those using our matrix.lrn.fm server... just be aware it's being a bit flaky at the moment and it’s not you. We’re going to try and do redeployment on a new server this weekend. Unfortunately it’s relatively easy to deploy a Matrix “home server”, but keeping a public instance up and running requires a crazy amount of effort and resources that most folks who’ve tried simply don’t have. There is a reason half of all matrix users are on matrix.org and the system isn’t as decentralized as would be optimal. However for real freedom to flourish someone needs to run independent systems separate from the company behind Matrix and separate from the big corporate entities that are the scum that make up most of the internet/tech industry. It’s never mentioned, but I figured it’s a good time to credit those who sponsor and/or run things behind the scenes.
