You tend to forget Vimeo exists, given Youtube's dominance of video online. But it does, and a few days ago I decided to see if there was much there from my current favourite musicians. Now, I'd more or less lost interest in music up to a few years ago. My interest in NZ music was piqued a while back by Lorde getting famous, so I went searching for why that might be. I didn't find the answer to that, but I did find one musician I liked. Namely, a one-woman-band called Bachelorette. (Now disbanded, Hamerkop being her latest outing.) She produced three good albums and an EP. And this video of her is unique to Vimeo, I think...

I then started to find other NZ music I liked, Princess Chelsea being another. (5 albums so far.) And as it's her day today, here's the one unique (I think) video of her on Vimeo...

Moving along, and we come to the Purple Pilgrims, a two sisters band with two albums to their name. And while I think I remember a blurry version of this on Youtube, this is a much better recording...

You won't find that on either album and it's a bit atypical of their music, which you'll easily find elsewhere, or on Bandcamp.

By now you're probably noticing a bit of a trend here. Yes, they all started out a bit over a decade ago. There must've been something in the air then.

Next up is Looking For Alaska, another duo consisting of an English guy and a Maori woman. Two albums to their name too, the second being an instant classic in my opinion. This is a mini documentary with a few songs to listen to within it.

And finally there's Wet Wings, another man and woman duo, and also with two albums to their credit. Not much to the video, but I do think it's unique to Vimeo. They're the ones I've been listening to most of late, but then they're the most recent ones I've discovered. Good songs and lovely, intricate music.

Now let's see what happens when I try and post all this! :)
