Which makes me wonder: does MLK's "stumbling block [...] white moderate" [1] get upset at the open racists because of the racism? Or because of the openness?
In Mills's view, the Racial Contract involves both a political component and an epistemological one. The political one is about oppression. The epistemological one is about *not seeing* the oppression. A lot of the time, it seems to me that white moderates are much more concerned with enforcing the epistemological contract than overturning the oppressive political one.
