⚡️🪨👀 FUN FACT - Ostrich use stones to help them break and grind the food they consume, as they do not have teeth
Ostriches, like other birds, have no teeth. To compensate, they swallow small stones called gastroliths. These stones go into their gizzard (a muscular organ of their digestive system), where they are used to mechanically grind food - a bit like a millstone.
They do use stones to "chew" their food, but inside their bodies!
Ostriches typically carry about 2.2 pounds of small, smooth pebbles in their gizzard, replacing them as they wear down.
