Rashad developed differently from his brothers and sister. At five, he hadn't yet spoken a word though he laughed at jokes and had a very expressive manner. He also ordered things around their home, grouping items by color or height or sometimes by qualities that were less obvious.
Then he started writing equations in his own math. He wrote them in pencil, pen, chalk—whatever he had. He was clearly working something out.
Tonight he solved it and our neighborhood blinked into a new dimension.
