If the Minister for Food writes a letter saying that Farmer Giles is a crypto-carnivore and should be removed from the Vegetable Marketing Board - are they writing that letter as an individual or as the official?
In most jobs, if you fuck up as part of your duties, the employer is responsible. They may or may not choose to fire you, but they'd probably have a hard time recovering costs unless your contract allowed it.
