I've noticed a significant difference in idle stability and performance for the petrol cars I've put some in over the years.
I can't vouch for the diesel additives, or the STP (a good brand) stuff but I bet you it works quite well. Removing and cleaning in an ultrasonic cleaner or replacing them with new (expensive) would be best, but I'd spend the $30 to try it on my vehicle.
