US Revoked Eight Licences For Exports to China's Huawei in 2024
==========
The US Commerce Department has revoked eight licences this year that allowed some firms in the country to ship goods to Chinese telecoms equipment giant Huawei Technologies. The revocation of licences is part of the US government's efforts to restrict Huawei's access to advanced chips and chipmaking equipment. In May, licences allowing companies including Intel and Qualcomm to ship chips used for laptops and handsets to Huawei were revoked. The move has left Republican China hardliners in Congress questioning why the Biden Administration is allowing US technology to be shipped to Huawei. Huawei was placed on a US trade restriction list in 2019 due to concerns about potential spying on Americans. However, suppliers have received licences worth billions of dollars to sell Huawei goods and technology, thanks to a policy introduced by the Trump administration. The US Commerce Department has approved $335 billion worth of licences for Chinese parties on the entity list from 2018 to 2023, with $222 billion worth of approvals coming in 2021, Biden's first year in office.
