He tells a story of a footpath near his house, where he always finds litter when he walks there.

Every day he picks it up. And every next day, there's litter again.

He used to get upset about this. "Won't the people learn?!" He held the hope his actions would convince people to act differently. Obviously it doesn't.

So he stopped hoping people would stop littering. And he went on his walk with the expectation of finding litter. And he still picked it up. But now without frustration.
