doulos is a tricky word that has more than one meaning. Sone languages have more than 1 word for snow, there was more than 1 Greek word for slave. Context makes this closer to servant. Someone who serves as a slave because of a personal choice. Something like, "You saved my life, now I will serve you until I can save yours."
Servant would also be a good translation. I only took a 2 years of 1st century Greek in college, and that was many years ago. 🤷
