I use symbolism for example in the pictures Galahad has in his cabin. They depict Galahad's conflicted feelings about death, a subject he became very obsessed about, researching funeral rites of cultures across the universe.
While he accepts his own mortality just like Socrates in Jacques-Louis David's "The Death of Socrates", he hasn't accepted the death of his wife and wishes there was a way to bring her back just like in Jean Raoux's "Orpheus and Eurydice".
