Without having run for office before, Guilherme is the grandson of the local patron, lawyer Antonio Carlos Sigmaringa Seixas, and the son of former federal deputy Luiz Carlos Sigmaringa, who was likely the local PT member with the closest ties to then-President Lula. It was well-known in Brasilia that Sig had a hand in the appointment of several Supreme Court ministers. Sig passed away in 2018 without ever holding party leadership positions. Guilherme explained that his candidacy is not just about himself, but 'a call to unity, to the collective strength that built our party on the streets, in struggles, and in the hearts of the people.' He bets on contrasts. In favor of Guilherme is the factor of renewal: he has no public service record, so he doesn't face the same resistance as older PT figures in the local party who have accumulated grievances over time.
