I disagree, there's plenty of bad research.
It can be developing new methods of fracking to pull more oil from the ground, it can be new psychological tricks to manipulate people into spending more, and it can be new designs to make planes go faster.
Efficiency in aviation made flying cheap, subsequently increasing the number of flights, which meant more fuel burned.
Given we're in the middle of the climate crisis, this is definitely *not* a good thing.
