While Antony initially seemed to value Octavia, his growing infatuation with Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, led to the demise of their marriage. Antony abandoned his Roman responsibilities and his family to pursue a life with Cleopatra, effectively dissolving their union.

Octavia remained loyal to her brother and played a crucial role in maintaining peace between the two factions for a time. However, the breakdown of their marriage ultimately contributed to the conflict between Octavian and Antony that culminated in the Battle of Actium (31 BC).
