I think that when you can trace the origin of the photos and they're unable to fake starvation it's rather provable. Also not every shoe was preserved, obviously.
There were indeed calculations done on how long it would take for the holocaust to happen, and it was in enough time from start to end. You don't even know how much ash cremation generates, either.
