Computers were not meant to be phones.
With the rare exception of Apple, computer manufacturers use every possibility to save a few cents wherever possible, which has resulted in absolutely terrible audio performance (especially microphones) in laptops.
Bluetooth has also failed catastrophically for bidirectional audio.
