The left wing[ers] of the Caucus … were open advocates of democratic socialism, and had little reservations in challenging the white leaders of their own party from the left on both foreign and domestic public policies.
Although the Caucus continued to exist … by the late 1970s it began to fracture internally due to ideological differences, egotistic power plays, and from external criticism from many moderate-to-conservative Black elite leaders.”
