Summary:

Is Bitcoin a Religion?

There are several reasons why some people might think so.

First, like religions, Bitcoin gathers a dedicated community of "believers." These followers, regardless of their level of understanding, strongly believe that Bitcoin will "go to the moon" or even change the world.

Second, Bitcoin has a mysterious origin story. No one knows who Satoshi Nakamoto is, which adds to its mystique. The Bitcoin white paper is treated like a bible, much like religious scriptures.

Third, there’s a sense of ritual within the community. People frequently recite phrases such as "Not your keys, not your coins" and "Stay humble and stack sats." There are even celebratory events like Pizza Day, Halving Day, and White Paper Day.

Lastly, Bitcoin promotes ethical values similar to those found in religions, such as opposing theft and advocating for honest work rather than unearned wealth—principles that challenge modern financial systems.

However, Bitcoin is fundamentally different from religion. It doesn't ask for blind faith but emphasizes “Don’t trust, verify” through open-source transparency. Moreover, it lacks supernatural or metaphysical elements, being purely rooted in mathematics, cryptography, and economic theories.

So, while Bitcoin may resemble religion in some cultural aspects, it is ultimately just a ledger. What do you think?
