Yeah temp foreign workers are very easy to take advantage of, which is why they're well-preferred.

When I was on a student Visa here, I was in a pretty tight spot @ one point because the Professors in my department wouldn't stop screaming @ the American students about U.S. politics (during class time, btw), demanding we literally vote for their preferred candidates.

I decided to throw my cards on it, and the dept. caved. But I had to be willing to be deported to have the argument. And Deportation for me meant a) the end of my grad work, b) the end of employment, c) the loss of all health care, and d) the loss of a place to live.

Stakes are very high when you're on a visa.
