I will do my best to give you a brief intro. Estrogen is known as the female hormone, but high estrogen is actually the root cause of many health problem. This is because high estrogen hinders the thyroid and slows metabolism.

Estrogen is the dominant hormone the first half of the menstrual cycle, and then once ovulation occurs, progesterone should rise to counteract estrogen for the second half. If progesterone does not rise sufficiently, you will experience estrogen dominance symptoms. These symptoms include PMS, acne, bloating, etc. Left unchecked, estrogen dominance will eventually lead to an increased risk in other serious issues like heart disease, reproductive issues, etc.

Progesterone, however, opposes estrogen and acts as protection against all these health issues. Progesterone is thus the hormone of resistance to stress.

Nutrition plays a huge role in regulating hormones. Raw carrot salads have gone mainstream recently as a hormone regulator (they decrease estrogen). Good carbs like fruit, honey, oj, and milk are also extremely important in lowering the stress hormones.
