Market forces.
You can connect your NOSTR client to free (no cost) relays for as long as you can find them. You can pay with anything that your preferred relay operators will accept.
But market forces will push relay operators towards charging Bitcoin to mitigate spam and abuse, and defray their costs. It'll be a cryptocurrency because nothing else make sense in a world of NOSTR identities; it'll be Bitcoin because that's the one that makes the most sense globally.
