Thanks for reminding me of email aliases. I haven't heard of SimpleLogin before, and I love how it integrates with Proton (I have accounts there).
Giving it a try. Firefox relay used to fail when I registered for certain services (they picked on the fact it's an alias).
I also have a "junk" email address, which gets more spam; I use it just for that sort of thing.
