Few things were taught to me from the point of view of "Oof, we've got this problem, so…"
Calculus (for example) was invented several times in several places, but I was never taught why, what problems pressed them to do it, or how were they doing it before.
If it had been, I'd have a much better grasp of it and what it does. I thrive when I have a problem to solve and solutions stick in my head better than answers.
(Do not explain calculus to me.)
