So I just started a 2-year online correspondence course around Shin Buddhism (Jodo Shinshu).
The course covers history, philosophy, and religious studies concerning general Buddhism as a whole as well as the specifics of my denomination.
While the course can be taken on it's own by lay folks, it can also be a first step towards becoming a minister's assistant as well as showing interest towards becoming a Buddhist priest or chaplain.
There are monthly reading assignments followed by a simple essay. Instructors read the essay and provide commentary and guidance. The essays aren't so much graded as they are benchmarks of your understanding of the material which the instructors can use to guide you in the direction of the study.
And of course, for my first assignment, I've waited until the VERY END of the month to turn it in right before deadline. It's college all over again!!! Hahaha!
So I'm off to do my first assignment. Wish me luck!
