I know! I thought webOS was close to iOS in terms of design and visual polish—I seriously considered getting a Pre at one point.
When I think about those early mobile UI designs—Metro is another good one that comes to mind—I always wonder how we wound up in a world where every OS either looks like iOS or is iOS. Those were not our only options; there were good ideas out there, botched by lumbering companies that didn't get mobile and had no clue how to handle their own innovations.
