I’m currently mentoring/training 2 junior staff in my team one with a background in support and one without. Neither seems to have foundational knowledge (not a knock on them at al, they have the right attitude so will learn it over time). And it makes it so much harder for them.
I gained that knowledge during my early career by always being super curious (and sometimes trying some crazy things) and it allows me to see and understand problems so much quicker.
I did get some of it though to me in my course 20 years ago. I’m so grateful for that.
I figure it was in the course because the teachers were actual IT professionals still working in corporate environments.
