An osage orange leaf (Maclura pomifera). This species was brought back to Virginia from the West by Lewis and Clark, and planted by Thomas Jefferson as a curiosity. They have sharp thorns, red-orange wood, and fruit (inedible by humans) that looks like baseball-sized oranges.
