“Nothing in life is truly linear, everything has fluctuations.”

That was a reply I gave to a post by today.

I wanted to expand on that thought tonight.

People often tend to think in linear terms when confronted with negative news. They assume that when one bad thing happens, it will set into motion a chain of more negative experiences, ultimately leading to a tragic end.

However, reality often defies such linear thinking. Life is not a straightforward progression from one event to another; it operates in cycles, with ebbs and flows. A single negative experience can unexpectedly lead to a positive one, or vice versa.

For instance, landing the perfect job might not necessarily lead to a dream career; it could result in a life of corporate captivity. Conversely, a forest fire, a destructive event on the surface, can pave the way for the regrowth of beautiful flowers.

In nature, we see the principle of death giving rise to life, and then the opposite occurring in cycles.

The linear thinking approach oversimplifies the complexities of life. There are too many variables at play to predict a perfect decline or ascension. Linear thinking serves as our attempt to control our earthly situations, but it is ultimately a flawed and futile endeavor.

In essence, it is folly.
