Because he rose so quickly, he thought momentum alone could defeat his enemies, but he hit the brick wall of reality on the Eastern front and the regime started making panic moves that destroyed the empire just as quickly as it rose. The experimentation with drug cocktails didn't help stabilize the situation either.
There's a temptation to idolize various aspects of the NAZI regime because all the most evil players in the world today vilify them, but there are **many** reasons they lost. It was a half baked attempt (generously) at restoring German greatness.
