Try changing the language if you wanna not do something, like mentally say, "why do i desire to abuse myself, stripping myself of further opportunities to build self-esteem through exercising self-control and pursue that which is real over that which is but an illusion".

It works for pretty much any unhealthy habit, that's how i stopped drinking excessively and smoking (completely)
