I don't know who needs to hear this but: try turning off your AC and opening your window instead. There are only benefits: you will breathe fresh air, hear birds, and not contribute to warming up your street and planet.
An open window behind opaque curtains/blinds goes a long way to make a room fresher.
I am horrified with the number of AC units in Boston. Everyone is different, but this is my third summer here and I've never needed more than a desk fan a couple weeks per year.
