remember when the original power pc was invented specifically to address the problems with the 68000 so that, this time for real, RISC processors would kill x86? And then nothing but macs used it and thus it remained this unsupported niche, and even Mac users hated it because all their classic mac software stopped working?
That's how I see the move from x86 to arm going. It's gonna be just like 68000 to Power PC. It's not efficiency that matters, it's compatibility.
