Just found out about this quote from an ex-Bungie dev, that he made on his Twitter back in 2022:
"Halo has turned into a bloated fanfic of what made the IP resonant in the first place."
(Hardy LeBel, multiplayer lead designer for Halo: Combat Evolved, and mission designer on Halo 2.)
I can think of quite a few franchise names that you could change 'Halo' to, and the quote still works.
