I think before anyone else ever goes in a tourist submersible, they should have to try surfing. Just one episode of being held underwater (very close to shore even, but still so far away) by wave after wave til you're sure you're going to die gives you INCREDIBLE amounts of respect for what a few feet of water can do with your silly human body. 3.8 kms of it on top of you? Be serious. You'd start looking really damn closely at those safety features, let me tell you.
