I don't feel comfortable speaking directly about it… all I can do is quote what the students and faculty unions said, which I fully agree with. I will say though that I was extremely distraught, and remain so, at the treatment of students and staff in the Palestinian Solidarity Encampment and I don't think that should be overlooked as a major contributing factor here even though it is not mentioned in any of the official outlets (yet?).

"Earlier this month, both the VIU students’ union and faculty association issued letters calling for the resignation of the president.
Maggie Velisek, the director of the VIU Students’ Union, said the calls from the student group came after more than a year of a lack of consultation with students over critical service cuts, including the recent decision to cancel a new VIU Child Care Centre.
“It’s not just the childcare building, it’s not just the new residence building that is two years behind, which is going to add another $20 million to the project, it’s not just these things, it’s a trend with the current administration,” Velisek said to CHEK News on March 8.
Meanwhile, the VIU Faculty Association conducted a vote of non-confidence, in which 86 per cent of respondents voted no-confidence.
“Our lack of confidence in university leadership is not simply the result of challenging times. The administrative culture here was already showing signs that it had decided on its own direction, with priorities that are out of step with our mandate,” Gara Pruesse, president of the faculty association, said in a news release on March 6.
“Recent and ongoing budget challenges have brought scrutiny on their decision-making, and revealed bad decisions and a lamentable indifference to evidence and data.”
