Ringlets spiral in joyful pairs
Meadow browns sipping
from lilac thistles
and golden ragweed nodding
To the morning sun
Another mowing
And the air is sour
with summer grass
And elderflower,
sweet nectar for the few bees
Humming their orisons
To the bursting goldenrod
Bright and hopeful
In the ditch.
