penn and teller did a special on "recycling" and the big joke is:
It's better to landfill plastics or burn them for heat/power, than what they were doing, which was slow-boating them to the third world for "recycling" and they just dumped it in the river/ocean.
As usual, it makes sense to recycle (i guess), but american politicians and corporations made a mockery of the whole thing and now we have a garbage patch in the pacific that you can see from space
