Is it surprising that the CCP intervened to censor works they didn't like? No.
It *is*, however, surprising how eager the North American administrators were to take the initiative in removing works with what seems like very little prompting - not only reading through the works in question, but also trolling through the authors' social media to see if they had ever said anything the host country might take umbrage at.
