I’m clearly not in favor of US tariffs, but I think the comparison to Leningrad falls short.
The main difference is the scale - Leningrad’s economy was tiny compared to that of the US, wasn’t it?
Same idea on a bigger scale: Earth itself is “under siege” from all alien civilizations, since we have no established interstellar trade routes, effectively isolating humanity. Yet, that doesn’t seem to be a problem at all.
The US sits somewhere between Leningrad and the entire planet 😅 So, while massive tariffs in a globalized economy are clearly a bad idea, they’re not as catastrophic as a full-blown siege like Leningrad.
